Born in 1967 in Mudrián (Segovia), Angela Sastre is currently Full Professor (2010) and Secretary of the Instituto de Biongeniería at the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche. She studied chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), where she obtained her Ph.D (1995, Prof. Tomás Torres). Subsequently, she spent 6 months as a European Postdoc Fellow in the École Superieure de Physique et Chimie Industrielles in Paris (Prof. Jacques Simon). She moved as a postdoctoral Fellow to Prof. Fred Wudl’s group where she was working for 2 years (1996-1997), first at the Institute for Polymers and Organic Solid, University of California, Santa Barbara and then at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of California, Los Angeles. She moved in 1998 to the Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche (UMH) where she holds the position of “Profesor Titular” of Organic Chemistry. Over the last eight years she has carried out research in the synthesis of molecular materials and polymers with optoelectronic and biological properties. Her research interest focuses on the synthesis of molecular and supramolecular electroactive systems with applications such as artificial photosynthetic analogues, photovoltaics, light emitting diodes, and photorefractive materials. She has published around 70 research papers.
