Short Bio
Tomás Torres is Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the Autonoma University of Madrid (UAM) and Associated Senior Researcher at the IMDEA-Nanoscience.
In addition to various aspects of synthetic and supramolecular chemistry his current research interests include the preparation and study of photophysical properties of organic functional materials. His group, that presently consists of twenty five researchers, is currently exploring several areas of application of phthalocyanines, porphyrins and carbon nanostructures (fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, graphene), including organic and hybrid solar cells, with a focus on nanotechnology.
Prof. Torres has published more than 450 papers and 42 patents, has given more than 250 lectures in scientific meetings and research institutions, and supervised 38 PhD. theses. He has an H-factor of 70 (ISI Web of Knowledge).
In 2001 he was distinguished as a Visiting Fellow of the Japan Society for the promotion of Science (JSPS). He has been awarded the JANSSEN CILAG prize for Organic Chemistry 2005 and the Research Award and Gold Medal by the Royal Society of Chemistry of Spain in 2013. In 2009, he has also been honoured as Doctor Honoris Causa by the Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology (ISUCT), Russia.
